- An unexpired government photo ID. Driver license, state ID, or passport. The name on it must match the name on the document.
- A US Social Security number. The identity quiz draws on US credit history. No SSN? Call us before booking.
- A device with a camera and microphone. A phone works. So does a laptop. Test it beforehand.
- Your document as an unsigned PDF. Do not sign it in advance — the notary has to watch you sign.
- A quiet, well-lit place. The session is recorded and retained for ten years under New York law.
Everything the document needs, on one booking

New York apostille

$120.00 per document plus New York's $100.00 state surcharge. We paper the notarization out with a wet signature and stamp, take it to the County Clerk, then to the New York Department of State.
Federal apostille

For federally issued documents — FBI background checks, USCIS records, IRS letters. These go to the US Department of State, not to New York.
Embassy legalization
$150.00 per document
For countries outside the Hague Convention, where the embassy or consulate must legalize the document. Requirements shift often, so we confirm and quote rather than guess.
Certified & sworn translation
$75.00 per page
Certified with a signed statement of accuracy, sworn where the destination requires it. A page is up to 250 words.
An apostille cannot be issued on an electronic file alone — that is why the paper copy with a wet signature and stamp matters, and why doing the notarization and the apostille in one place saves you a round trip. Return shipping is $50.00, charged once per order however many documents you send.

Is an online notarization legally valid?
Yes. Remote online notarization is permanently authorized in New York under Executive Law 135-c, and our notary holds an electronic notary commission registered with the New York Department of State. The notarization carries the same legal weight as one done across a desk.
What does it cost?
Two charges. You pay a $25.00 session booking fee here, which holds your appointment and covers scheduling, intake and document handling. BlueNotary bills the notarization itself during your session at $25.00 per signature — that is the maximum a New York electronic notary may legally charge, set by state regulation.
What counts as one signature?
One notarial act is one signature notarized on one document. If two people sign the same form, that is two acts. If you sign three separate documents, that is three.
Do I have to be in New York?
No. The notary must be physically in New York during the session; you can be anywhere in the United States. If you are outside the country, New York law allows the notarization only when the document is bound for a US court or agency, involves US property, or is part of a transaction connected to the United States — the booking form asks you about this before you pay.
What do I need to have ready?
An unexpired government photo ID, a US Social Security number for the identity quiz, a device with a working camera and microphone, and your document as a PDF. Do not sign the document beforehand — the notary has to watch you sign it.
What if I do not have a US Social Security number?
The knowledge-based identity quiz relies on US credit history, so it cannot run without one. Call us before booking and we will tell you whether the biometric identity path can be used for your document, or arrange a mail-in option.
Why does my certificate say the notarization was done remotely?
New York requires the notary certificate to state that the act was performed using communication technology. It is a legal requirement, not a defect, and it does not weaken the notarization.
Can a document notarized online get an apostille?
Yes, and we handle it. We issue a paper copy of the electronic notarization certified with a wet signature and stamp, take it to the County Clerk where our notary is qualified, then to the New York Department of State. New York apostilles run $220.00 per document — $120.00 plus the $100.00 state surcharge New York carries — and return shipping is $50.00 per order.
Can you translate the document as well?
Yes. We provide certified translations with a signed statement of accuracy, and sworn translations where the destination country requires one. Add it when you book and tell us the target language and page count — a page is up to 250 words.
My document is going to a country that does not accept apostilles. What then?
That country is outside the Hague Apostille Convention, so the document needs embassy or consular legalization instead. We handle that too. Requirements and consulate fees vary by country and change often, so we quote legalization after confirming that consulate's current rules rather than charging a flat rate up front.
Do you handle federal apostilles as well as New York ones?
Yes, and they are different routes. A document our notary notarizes takes the New York route: County Clerk, then the New York Department of State. A federally issued document — an FBI background check, a USCIS record, an IRS letter — goes to the US Department of State instead. Add whichever you need when you book and we will tell you if you picked the wrong one.
What cannot be notarized online?

How long does a session take?
Most sessions run about 30 minutes, including identity verification. Complicated documents with several signers take longer.
