Why notarized documents get rejected, and how we prevent it

Florida apostilles the signature of a commissioned Florida notary, so the notarization has to be complete, correct and in English. A missing venue, an incomplete notarial certificate or an expired commission means the state will return your document without an apostille.

Diplomas and transcripts work differently: the school registrar or issuing official has to sign in front of a notary when the document is issued. You can't print one yourself and have it notarized. Our Tallahassee office includes a commissioned Florida notary, and we review every document before filing.

  • Notarized by a notary currently commissioned in Florida, in English
  • A complete notarial certificate with venue, date, signer's name and seal
  • Diplomas and transcripts signed by the school registrar before a notary
  • The original signed document, not a copy
