Where Florida's Apostilles Are Actually Issued

A Miami birth certificate, an Orlando power of attorney and a Jacksonville corporate resolution all end up in the same place: the Florida Department of State, here in the capital. Everyone else mails their documents to this city and waits. Being in it means a filing can be lodged the day it is ready rather than the day it arrives.

The other reason to start here is sequence. Documents bound abroad usually need more than one thing done to them — notarization, then translation, then an apostille, and for some countries a consular step after that. Each hand-off between separate vendors is a chance for the order to go wrong. This office does all four, in the right order, as one job.

What We Do

Services at the Tallahassee Office

Expedited Florida Apostille

State-level apostilles issued by the Florida Department of State. Because we file in person in Tallahassee rather than mailing from elsewhere in the state, expedited handling is a matter of walking the document over.

Federal Apostille

FBI background checks, naturalization and citizenship certificates, federal court records, IRS Form 6166 and DD-214s. These are issued only by the U.S. Department of State, so we route them to our Washington office for hand-delivery.

Notary Public

Affidavits, powers of attorney, single-status declarations, consent-to-travel letters and corporate signings — notarized on site and prepared in the form the state will accept for an apostille afterwards.

Certified Translation

Translations with a signed certificate of accuracy, accepted by consulates, immigration authorities and foreign registries. Translated where the document will also be notarized and apostilled, so nothing has to be redone.

Florida Vital Records

Birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates for use abroad. The state will only apostille a certified copy issued by the Bureau of Vital Statistics or a county clerk — we check yours qualifies before filing.

Corporate & Commercial

Certificates of status, articles of incorporation, bylaws, resolutions and commercial invoices for foreign registration, tenders and cross-border transactions — plus the consular step where the destination is outside the Hague Convention.

Simple · Tracked · Reliable

How a Document Moves Through This Office

The first question is always what the document needs and in what order — translation before notarization or after, state or federal, apostille or full consular legalization. Get that wrong and the work has to be repeated from the beginning. We settle it at intake. Downtown Tallahassee, the Capitol complex and FSU are all within a short walk, and documents arrive by mail and through the portal from across Florida.

Location Advantage

Why the Capital Is the Fast Place to File

Florida has one apostille office and it is in this city. Everything that makes a filing quick follows from being here rather than mailing into it.

  • Filed in person, not posted in A document mailed from South Florida spends days getting here before anyone opens it. Ours are walked in, which is where the expedited turnaround comes from.
  • Notary, translation and apostille in one place No posting an original to a translator and hoping it comes back in time, and no discovering that the notarization was done in a form the state will not accept.
  • State and federal both handled Florida documents are filed here; FBI reports and other federal records go to our Washington office for hand-delivery. You do not have to work out which is which.
  • Destination checked before anything is filed Countries outside the Hague Convention need consular legalization, not an apostille. We confirm which your destination requires at the start, not after.
Questions & Answers

113 S Monroe Street Office — Common Questions

Where is the Tallahassee office?
113 S Monroe St, 1st Floor, Tallahassee, FL 32301 — in downtown Tallahassee beside the Capitol complex, a few minutes' walk from the state offices that issue Florida apostilles.
What does "expedited" actually mean here?
It means the filing is hand-carried rather than mailed. A document sent in from Tampa or Fort Lauderdale spends days in transit each way before and after processing; one lodged in person skips both legs. The state's own processing time is what it is — what we remove is everything around it.
Is my document a Florida apostille or a federal one?
It depends on who issued it. A Florida agency, court, school or notary means a Florida apostille from the Department of State. A federal agency — the FBI, USCIS, the IRS, a federal court, the armed forces — means a federal apostille, issued only by the U.S. Department of State in Washington. Send it either way; sorting it is the first thing we do.
What does it cost?
Federal apostilles are $120 flat with the government fee included. Florida state-level apostilles are {{FL_PRICE}}. Notarization and certified translation are quoted with the job, so you have the full figure before anything starts.
Do you translate the document as well?
Yes — certified translation with a signed certificate of accuracy, the form consulates and immigration authorities ask for. Doing it in the same place as the notarization and the apostille matters more than it sounds: the order these steps happen in is fixed, and getting it wrong usually means starting over.
Can you notarize something for me here?
Yes. Affidavits, powers of attorney, single-status declarations, travel consent letters and corporate signings are notarized on site — and notarized in the form the state requires if an apostille is going on top of it afterwards.
My destination country isn't in the Hague Convention. What then?
Then an apostille will not be accepted and the document needs consular legalization instead — authentication by Florida or the federal government, then the U.S. Department of State, then that country's embassy or consulate. We run those chains too. Tell us the destination and we will map the sequence and the realistic timeline before you commit.
